Bert Jansch was born in the Springburn district of Glasgow, on 3 November 1943, the descendant of a family originally from Hamburg, Germany, who settled in Scotland during the Victorian era. Jansch’s most notable contribution was his highly innovative and aggressive fingerpicking style, which was a hallmark of the 1960s British folk revival.
