A rare but amazing site! Toad head agamas (Phrynocephalus mystaceus) have special flaps of skin on either side of their mouth that they can flare out to intimidate potential predators. Usually mine are so relaxed that they never employ this display. I must have accidentally startled this one during its wellness check. I don’t typically handle my animals but I do so around once a month to give them a full health inspection. This is just one of the amazing adaptations of this bizarre little lizard
