One of my favourite shoulder starter exercises is the side lateral raise. The side lateral raise is important because it builds the medial deltoids, giving the shoulders width and a more powerful V-taper. Proper execution means leading with the elbows, keeping a slight bend in your arms, and lifting only to shoulder height with control. Unless you’re Arnold Schwarzenegger of course. Keeping tension on the delts—not swinging or using momentum—maximizes muscle activation and protects your joints.
