Department of Homeland Security plans to purchase and operate mega warehouses to use as immigration detention centers are raising concerns among lawmakers, local residents and government contractors.

A proposed holding center for ICE detainees in a small Georgia town could be open as early as April, despite city officials opposition to the plan.

U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar sent a letter to DHS and ICE expressing her continued opposition to any new ICE detention facilities in El Paso County.

ICE has purchased a large industrial building in San Antonio and plans to convert it into a detention facility, expanding federal detention capacity in South Texas.
